The weeks are flying by! As my time here gets shorter, I’m finding myself so torn between the extremes of missing my family and wanted to be home, and thinking of just how much I am going to miss being here. The hardest part of all will be leaving these children (Sarah in particular) that I know I will likely never see again.

In my time here and with all that I have experienced, the best times I have had are just playing with the children on the living room floor. I love to see the smiles on their faces and hear them laugh – it fills my heart with so much joy! Being here at the house caring for the children, preparing meals, cleaning, grocery shopping, and organizing are what I love to do best…I guess I’m destined to be a stay at home mom. :)

Although I have enjoyed things like: home visits, running errands, going to Kampala...etc., (and I’m super grateful for the experiences) I think that if I were ever to be here long term, I would love to for the most part just be home caring for children. …It’s what I love. :)

Nusula’s time here at our house is coming to a close. :( She’s improved so much since I first arrived, and Renee plans to transition her home within the week.
I’m going to miss that girl!

When I got here, Nusula had been here for 2 weeks. She was so little; she hardly played or interacted, and most of the time she would just sit there and play with her toe. (One of her all time favorite things to do!) As the weeks went by she began to open up and interact more, she started crawling, and over the last month she’s been pulling up on things and is so close to walking - I really hope she does so before I leave!

Nusula is 2, but because of being malnourished her growth and development were stunted, so she is just now getting to the place she needs to be. I’m so blessed that I can play a small part in helping these children to get well!

Blair is also heading home soon, so it may just be three children (Kamula, Sarah, and Selah) here in the house when I leave. I’m very thankful that it’s working out this way, so Renee will have a lesser work load as she will be here by herself.

Tomorrow we are doing a home visit for Sarah. (She’s the one in my profile picture.) Please pray for safety and for the Lord’s will do be done. We are visiting her home and speaking to some of her relatives to explore if any of them can care for her when she’s finished in the program. If not, Renee will then look into other options for her.

I don’t pretend to know what’s best for Sarah, but I really want her to be in a home where she is wanted and well loved. I know the best thing I can do is pray and trust her to God’s care…please join me in prayer for this precious girl. I wish I could just bring her home with me!

  1. AH! I can't believe Nusula is going to be going home so soon! I just can't believe how much she has improved since I left! I love that little girl to the ends of this earth and just when I think I couldn't possibly miss her anymore, I wake up the next morning and my heart aches to hold her... I am just SO thankful that you are there to see her off, PLEASE give her a great BIG kiss from "Auntie Eileen". I pray every day that I will have the opportunity to hold her in my arms again one day. I am literally wiping tears away as I sit here and think about her leaving the SHC house... even though I knew it was coming. It is so encouraging to see her and Maama Nusula interact with each other though... she loves her SO much and isn't afraid to show it!

Thanks for loving on the BEAUTIFUL people of Uganda... wish I could be there loving on them too!

  2. Hello Brigitte! I found your blog through a friend's blog, and seeing that you're caring for children in Africa definitely drew my attention! I spent 4 life-changing weeks in Kenya last summer, and hope to go again, maybe next year.

So what exactly are you doing in Uganda? What program are you there with? I'd love to hear more about your ministry!
    God bless,
    Ashley

  3. Brigitte, I am just getting caught up on all my e-mails and reading. It is so wonderful to see what you are doing and hear you heart for these people and the will of God in your life. I am so amazed at how God carefully plans and sets up to provide for the most basic of details. I love that he is a God of details and He takes pleasure in the simple things of our lives. Your playing with one child in the floor is as much joy to God as another's work on behalf of 100. What a God we serve!! I am praying for you, Renee and the children and their families. Love Stephanie

  4. Ashley,
I am working with the ministry “Serving His Children.” The main focus of this ministry is to rehabilitate malnourished children, but there are also other programs going on here. To learn more, check out the website: www.servinghischildren.org.

I’ll be leaving soon, having been here for three months. I’ve loved it, and I think I could say the same as you that it’s been life changing!

I hope you find the info you are looking for – let me know if you have any specific questions.
    ~Brigitte
